In the darkness comes the Light
Shining forth His glorious grace
Through His strength we overcome
As we gaze upon His face.
Sunlight breaks, repelling night
Son of God in triumph comes
Conquering death and Satan's hold
We his heirs, daughters and sons.
Tiny babe to earth He came
Perfect Man to take our place
Bow before His holy name
Praise aloud - amazing grace!

For the Sake of His Name
Go to the world for the sake of His name;
To every nation His glory proclaim.
Pray that the Spirit wise
Will open darkened eyes,
Granting new life to display Jesus’ fame.
Refrain:
In Jesus’ power, preach Christ to the lost;
For Jesus’ glory, count all else but loss.
Gather from every place
Trophies of sov’reign grace.
Lest life be wasted, exalt Jesus’ cross.
Love the unloved for the sake of His name;
Like Christ, befriend those whose heads hang in shame.
Jesus did not condemn,
But was condemned for them.
Trust gospel pow’r, for we once were the same.
Rescue the lost for the sake of His name;
As Christ commands, snatch them out of the flame.
Tell that when Jesus died
God’s wrath was satisfied.
Urge them to flee to the Lamb who was slain.
Look to the Throne for the sake of His name;
Think of the throng who will share in His reign.
Some for whose souls we pray
Will share our joy that day,
Joining our song for the sake of His name!

Knowing God
I recently finished reading Knowing God by J. I. Packer.
Here are some quotes that stood out to me.
"Godliness means responding to God’s revelation in trust and obedience, faith and worship, prayer and praise, submission and service."
(page 18, Kindle Edition)
"Do I look habitually to the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ as showing me the final truth about the nature and the grace of God? Do I see all the purposes of God as centering upon him?"
(page 55, Kindle Edition)
"But how are we to meet these baffling and trying situations, if we cannot for the moment see God’s purpose in them? First, by taking them as from God, and asking ourselves what reactions to them, and in them, the gospel of God requires of us, second, by seeking God’s face specifically about them."
(page 109, Kindle Edition)
"Scripture does not allow us to suppose that because God is love we may look to him to confer happiness on people who will not seek holiness, or to shield his loved ones from trouble when he knows that they need trouble to further their sanctification."
(page 138, Kindle Edition)
"It has been said that in the New Testament doctrine is grace, and ethics is gratitude; and something is wrong with any form of Christianity in which, experimentally and practically, this saying is not being verified."
(page 155, Kindle Edition)
"So it is not as we strain after feelings and experiences but as we seek God himself, looking to him as our Father, prizing his fellowship, and finding in ourselves an increasing concern to know and please him, that the reality of the Spirit’s ministry becomes visible in our lives."
(page 249, Kindle Edition)
"When in doubt, do nothing, but continue to wait on God. When action is needed, light will come."
(page 271, Kindle Edition)

Reading and Writing Goals 2016
This past year I had two reading and writing goals.
- Writing: the 500 Words a Day Challenge
2015 was my fourth year participating in this challenge. I've enjoyed it for the past couple of years, and I find it helpful to keep me writing consistently, even if not in large chunks all at once.
- Reading: read a total of 60 books
How did I do?
- Writing: I exceeded my goal for the 500 Words a Day Challenge. Most of this writing was for the classes I teach and for translation freelance projects. I'm really happy with how much I wrote.
- Reading: As I have mentioned previously, I did a lot of reading this year. I read a total of 123 books.
What's up for this year?
- Writing: I'm planning on continuing the 500 Words a Day Challenge. It's been working well for me, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with this goal this year.
- Reading: My plan is to read a total of 80 books this year. This number is higher than what I set for last year. However, since it is less than what I actually read last year, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to reach this number in 2016.
How about you? Any reading or writing goals for 2016?
