Knowing God

I recently finished reading Knowing God by J. I. Packer.
Here are some quotes that stood out to me.

"Godliness means responding to God’s revelation in trust and obedience, faith and worship, prayer and praise, submission and service."
(page 18, Kindle Edition)

"Do I look habitually to the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ as showing me the final truth about the nature and the grace of God? Do I see all the purposes of God as centering upon him?"
(page 55, Kindle Edition)

"But how are we to meet these baffling and trying situations, if we cannot for the moment see God’s purpose in them? First, by taking them as from God, and asking ourselves what reactions to them, and in them, the gospel of God requires of us, second, by seeking God’s face specifically about them."
(page 109, Kindle Edition)

"Scripture does not allow us to suppose that because God is love we may look to him to confer happiness on people who will not seek holiness, or to shield his loved ones from trouble when he knows that they need trouble to further their sanctification."
(page 138, Kindle Edition)

"It has been said that in the New Testament doctrine is grace, and ethics is gratitude; and something is wrong with any form of Christianity in which, experimentally and practically, this saying is not being verified."
(page 155, Kindle Edition)

"So it is not as we strain after feelings and experiences but as we seek God himself, looking to him as our Father, prizing his fellowship, and finding in ourselves an increasing concern to know and please him, that the reality of the Spirit’s ministry becomes visible in our lives."
(page 249, Kindle Edition)

"When in doubt, do nothing, but continue to wait on God. When action is needed, light will come."
(page 271, Kindle Edition)
