1 John - week 4 (1 John 2:1-6)
1 John - week 4 - chapter 2:1-6 (audio)
I used a couple of different articles in my preparation for this session (along with a couple of systematic theologies). I’ve included a list of those articles below. Just as a note, I don’t agree with everything in each of these articles, nor do I agree with everything that each of these authors has written. However, in thinking through the theological concepts of propitiation and the limits (or lack thereof) on atonement, you might find these articles helpful. I like to think of it in this way: on some of these concepts, the conversation has been going on for centuries, if not for millenia. We get to be a part of the conversation, but we should also know what others have said about it.
"Propitiation" by Ligon Duncan
"Propitiation"
"Expiation and Propitiation" by R. C. Sproul
"Unlimited Atonement"
Calvin’s Commentary on 1 John 2
