The Comfort of God's Peace

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." (John 14:27, ESV)

What comfort to know that not only does God give us peace, but He gives us His peace. Peace that surpasses all understanding. Peace that is beyond what mere mortals can comprehend. This peace is rooted in the fact that God is sovereign. He controls all. Everything. Everyone. No one can act outside of His allowing it. No storm can rise, no winds can blow, no evil can befall us, but that it has already passed through God's hands.

This peace is also rooted in the fact that God is good. He loves us with an everlasting love. He provides us with grace that is more than sufficient. As we humbly trust Him, He gives us inward and outward peace. Our world may fall apart, our family and friends may desert us, our health may fail, but our God is still faithful. And so, we face the unknown, the future, with hope and confidence, because God has already seen it and because He walks beside us every step of the way.
