Jesus Bears All Our Griefs - Even the Self-Inflicted Ones

"Someone who is suffering as a result of his own foolishness or failure may read these words. These griefs are hard indeed to bear, for we feel we might easily have avoided them. We have no one to blame but ourselves, and there isn’t much consolation there. Sometimes we imagine that we must bear this kind of trouble alone, but that is a mistake. The Lamb of God, slain for us, has borne all of our griefs and carried all of our sorrows, no matter what their origin. All grief and sorrow is the result of sin somewhere along the line, but Christ received them willingly. It is nothing but pride that keeps me from asking Him to help me to bear the troubles which are my own fault."
- Elisabeth Elliot

Green Leaf in Drought by Isobel Kuhn

I recently finished reading Green Leaf in Drought by Isobel Kuhn.
Here are some quotes that stood out to me.

"Tender words, for our Lord never scolded Martha for her 'if;' nor Mary (who accompanied the same 'if' with mute worship, prostrating herself at His feet), but with her, He wept. Wept at the sorrow which must accompany spiritual growth in our lives: for by suffering He also learned obedience."
(Kindle edition, page 465)

"When dark clouds obscure my vision, and the way I may not see, I will trust Him in the darkness, for I know He pilots me."
(Kindle edition, location 496)

"Amy Carmichael once replied to a Tamil Christian who took this meaning of service: 'God didn’t make you all mouth.' The most potent way to preach is by life, by living it. This was the service which the Mathews family were to render to Him."
(Kindle edition, location 843)

When Love is Found

When love is found and hope comes home,
sing and be glad that two are one.
When love explodes and fills the sky,
praise God, and share our Maker's joy.

When love has flowered in trust and care,
build both each day that love may dare
to reach beyond home's warmth and light,
to serve and strive for truth and right.

When love is tried as loved-ones change,
hold still to hope though all seems strange,
till ease returns and love grows wise
through listening ears and opened eyes.

When love is torn and trust betrayed,
pray strength to love till torments fade,
till lovers keep no score of wrong,
but hear through pain love's Easter song.

Praise God for love, praise God for life,
in age or youth, in calm or strife.
Lift up your hearts, let love be fed
through death and life in broken bread.
